A memoir that reads like a house call

The Wake-Up Call! pairs Gregory’s own story with the science of sleep, written for readers who have never set foot in a sleep lab.

It explains how sleep apnea, insomnia and ongoing sleep loss are tied to heart attack, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure, sexual health and mental health, and why so many of these cases go unnoticed for years.

His vision for the book is bigger than one reader: he wants doctors, employers and community leaders to treat sleep as part of everyday health care.

  • ChildrenHow sleep shapes a child’s learning, behavior and growth.
  • Your bodyWhy your energy, weight, blood sugar and mood all trace back to the night before.
  • Your mindThe hidden link between poor sleep, stress, depression and long-term illness.
  • CouplesHow partners can stop sleeping in separate rooms and get their closeness back.
  • SnoringWhy snoring is a warning sign, not a family joke.
  • MorningsHow reclaiming your nights changes the way you live your days.

Snoring is a red flag, not a joke

Gregory has spent more than 25 years in respiratory care, and since 2006 he has tested and treated sleep apnea across Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean. He has seen how few people realize that snoring can signal a condition linked to heart attack, stroke, diabetes and high blood pressure.

What a sleep study sees. The snoring stops, but so does the breathing. Oxygen falls, the body jolts awake for a gasp, and it starts again. Most people never feel a thing.

4:30 AM · His story

It started with Grandma’s snoring

Gregory grew up in South Florida, raised by Trinidadian parents who kept the islands close. As boys, he and his brother used to laugh at their grandmother’s snoring every night.

Years later, trained as a respiratory therapist, he understood what they had been hearing. He lost her to sleep apnea that was never diagnosed, and later watched his father suffer a stroke. That is the warning this book is written to deliver.

“How you sleep is how you live.”

A U.S. Air Force veteran and American board-certified respiratory therapist, he founded iSD Health Solutions and the Caribbean Sleep Disorders Association, served on the board of the American Sleep Health Foundation, and trains doctors and health workers across the region.

5:30 AM · Rest by design

The book opens where Gregory’s own convictions begin: rest is part of how we were made. Even the Creator rested on the seventh day.

Scripture sits alongside sleep science throughout the book, so it speaks as easily to a church study group as to a doctor’s waiting room.
